Courses for freelance translators

I teach two online courses for freelance translators: Getting Started as a Freelance Translator (for beginning translators) and Beyond the Basics of Freelancing (for translators with established freelance businesses). Getting Started as a Freelance Translator

For: beginning translators in any language combination
Next session begins: June 18, 2014.
Course format: completely online, on your own schedule; you do not need to be online at a specific time
Registration cost: $325 (members of the American Translators Association receive a $50 discount). Registration is open here.
Registration includes:

  • A copy of my books, How to Succeed as a Freelance Translator and Thoughts on Translation.
  • Individualized feedback on four targeted assignments: your resume and cover letter, marketing plan, rates and billable hours sheet and your online presence.
  • At least four conference calls spaced throughout the course; you are welcome to attend live or to submit your questions in advance and listen to a recording of the call.

The course is conducted entirely by e-mail and you do not have to be online at a specific time to participate; the materials apply to translators in any language combination. The next four-week session starts on June 18, 2014 and the registration cost is $325. Members of the American Translators Association receive a $50 discount. Registration is open here.

Beyond the Basics of Freelancing

For: translators with established freelance businesses and a base of clients, in any language combination
Next session begins: May 14, 2014.
Course format: completely online, on your own schedule; you do not need to be online at a specific time
Registration cost: $325 (members of the American Translators Association receive a $50 discount). Registration is open here.
Registration includes:

  • A copy of my books, How to Succeed as a Freelance Translator and Thoughts on Translation.
  • A one-hour individual consultation (by phone or Skype).
  • Individualized feedback on: your current and potential marketing materials; a profile of your ideal client, and a list of direct clients you’d like to market to; a plan for raising your profile in the translation industry and meeting your potential direct clients on their turf; a financial plan for your translation business, and a plan of action for the next six months so that you can reach these goals.
  • At least four conference calls spaced throughout the course; you are welcome to attend live or to submit your questions in advance and listen to a recording of the call.
